RE: 7 days, 2480 miles, $1485 gas

Short duration, longish trips can get expensive but also can be worth it. Even so 7 nights in a hotel at $100 a night plus gas for the car isn't really much cheaper.

RE: How much discount off the MSRP can we expect to get?

You can expect to get around 25%. I'd walk if it wasn't at least 25% off MSRP. Some manufactures you can do better, others not. Cheaper units will tend to have less head room but its pretty universal that you can find someone to sell you one at around 25% or so off the MSRP. Make sure its the actual MSRP and not some fluffed up price. You can do that by contacting multiple dealers and checking price sheets / options between them. Some manufacturers will give you them as well.

RE: Great Reviews - Bad Parks!

You always have to take reviews with a grain of salt. You have plenty of idiots out there that feel the need to give a 2/10 just because the price was more than they wanted to pay. You have to take your time and go through the reviews and see what exactly people are saying and even take the time to check out their prior reviews of different CG's. Also my opinion of a nice CG and thing we are looking for or what we are willing to pay will be very different that others here. You sort of have to take a look at it all and determine what exactly is important to you and filter out the other stuff. One thing is certain. Great CG's will often have many good to great reviews with perhaps one or two negative ones if any. Bad CG's are just the opposite. Mediocre ones are in between.

RE: rv insurance

Asking a question like that is impossible to answer. Here are some variables: 1. Credit score 2. Driving record 3. Coverages 4. Location 5. Prior coverages 6. Useage 7. Value of the MH It is really virtually impossible to check rates accross a wide segement there are so many possilbe permutations and variations it makes it very difficult.

RE: My Little Secret

Dang, I was hoping for better news. Since it cost us $547 in fuel to make it from Dayton, OH to Scottsbluff, NE, I was hoping for more low cost vacancies. We had to stop over here in Nebraska for 8 days waiting for payday so we could buy more diesel fuel to continue our trip to Yellowstone. We will be staying a month in 1 town/place instead of our usual 1 week to help defray costs. But this is ridiculous. It's not fun to have to make reservations for every little move. What's going happen to the freedom of the road Nomad lifestyle if you have to plan/reserve campsites every time your feet get itchy. Is the high cost of campsites/fuel and the unavailability of campsites the beginning of the end for "on the road" full-timing? Just food for thought. Unfortunately the world doesn't stop to wait for us to decide where we want to camp. If you camp in popular areas you will need reservations for peak season. Otherwise its pretty much not an issue. This is one of those things you can either adapt to pretty easily or let it get you down.

RE: We Need A MFG. Contest!

But, what if you were doing 16,000 miles a year and gas cost $4.00/gal and your getting 8 MPG. You are spending $8,000.00/tear for gas, whereas a same size MH that gets 16 MPG only spends $4,000.00/year on gas and if the MH is kept for 5 years, the savings is $20,000.00. Right now fuel efficient cars are selling well and the big SUV's and HD pick-up trucks are hard to give away. I see where Nissan is offering a $5,000.00 cash rebate on the Titan. Bagman. I'll keep the extra 10 feet and actually be comfortable. 4k a year is peanuts compared to how much more you will spend for that new fuel efficient motor home, you will end up with less space, pay more and probably end up with significantly less CCC as well. That would be a typical american financial decision. Lose 50k+ in depreciation to upgrade their MH to save 4k a year on fuel. Not too mention the depreciation on the new unit. I've yet to see a hybrid make sense over a similar non hybrid cost wise. Especially since the tax rebates are going away. I have to laugh when people pay an extra 6k for the vehicle and drive mostly highway miles. If you live in a big city it might make sense but for the majority of us that isn't the case.

RE: interesting news

Ok, another company moves to Mexico or China or where-ever, isn't the big picture that one more company has made increased profit above all else. One by one our jobs are going out of the country and soon there won't be any good jobs here, maybe no jobs. Picture Americans sneaking across the border to get a job.Ok, that maybe a little bit of a stretch but who do all these CEO's think are gonna buy their product when all the good jobs are gone. I still wont buy a Hersey bar:M sorry for the rant. Jobs move there because people tend to buy the cheapest available. How many "Tire Price" threads do we see? People don't want to pay the extra $25 per tire so they buy them from Costco and then in 10 years wonder why the mom and pop place down the street closed and thats the only place they can go. Well why pay for higher priced American labor when a guy in India or Mexico will do it ALMOST as good for much less? Unfortunately most Americans don't buy quality, they buy for price and what looks ok. They don't care that the Chinese furniture they bought from Rooms 2 Go is junk, they didn't want to pay the extra 25% for solid wood that will last a lifetime. Especially when people tend to change things like underwear.

RE: Bennett Law Firm

Check with an attorney in the state you live in as well as in MT. You might find yourself in a mess if you don't. Especially if you really do live in WV, work and the MH will be garaged there most of the time.

RE: When comparing rigs does the dealership make a difference?

If you can get a local dealer at a price close to what you want then go for it. Just remember in a year you'll be paying for service regardless so its really not that important. You'll be able to pick wherever you want to go.

RE: Get 119 signal, no 119 programming, Dish 500

One of the reasons we dropped dish. This was getting frustrating and after a nigh in light rain trying to get it worked out I gave up on them. Normally it took a check switch to fix. Sometimes the LNBs were not pointing at the right satellites so we would have to use some foil to cover one LNB and make sure it was locking on the right bird.

RE: DirecTV DVR - Use As Plain, Ol' DVR?

Should work just fine. You will get the normal setup******when you first turn it on because its looking for the satellites but we use ours without signal. Just try and exit out of the satellite finding stuff and you should be able to pull up your programs in the menus.

RE: Camping Cost?

Depends on location. My advice to you is budget more than you will use. Costs go up and you would rather have a little more money than not enough at the end of the month. We budget $1,000 per month for CG costs. Depending on where we stay the monthly rates vary from $450 - $1,000. SE Florida is fairly expensive because there really aren't that many options.

RE: Disappointed about my local dealer

Its a 1 year warranty for the most part. Your dealer most likely won't get involved with anything really major like a sidewall falling off or something that the factory would most likely need to look at. So in the end its really not a big deal, especially considering that for most problems they are fairly simple to fix. Now if you are the type that has the dealer tighten screws then you might want to make sure you buy from the guy otherwise you'll be paying for service like everyone else after year 1 is up.

RE: Satellite TV for the RV

Dome or roof mounted dish or tripod mounted dish Dome: Can see one sat at a time, Good for DirecTV standard television, however if you have dish, or either service HDTV and more than one receiver, or a dual input DVR, then you may need to see more than one satellite at a time, NO dome can do that. SNIP>>>> King Dome does not agree with you. They say their dome switches satellites and receives HDTV. "Extremely fast satellite acquisition and tracking Works with DIRECTV, DISH Network & ExpressVU receivers (receiver not included) No cable wrap (unlimited rotation) Integrated DVB technology Direct satellite switching for DISH 500, DIRECTV Plus and HDTV Low profile unit, only 12" high. Dual LNB. Dual system enables viewing different channels on multiple televisions using 2 receivers. White or Black dome available." Link I don't know who is right here, just passing along the information I saw. BTW, I have had DirecTV for 15+ years starting with one of the first auto seek dishes and now a KVH in motion dome. It has always worked flawlessly for me. They can currently receive around 14 of the almost 100 HD stations. Those stations will be moving to the 99 adn 103 satellites over the next few years so eventually you will not get any HD from DirecTV. Dish is also moving to the new frequencies in a couple of years once they can get another satellite up in orbit. Their last one was DOA this year. So while technically true I'd be pretty pissed that I'm only getting around 10% of the HD offered and that number will decrease over time. If you are with Dish the dome will work for now. You will have issues with it in a couple of years. For some of you that will work and for others you will be back on here screaming in 2 years why your dome no longer works and how you got screwed etc.. Do your own research and buyer beware.

RE: VuCube and DirecTV

It will happen at some point but 2010 is probably a little early. 2015 or so is a possibility. They still have far too many non Mpeg4 receivers and dishes out there as of now to make the switch that quickly. It will come though as the compression differences are huge and it will allow them much more bandwidth to work with.

RE: Using Cruise control to save fuel

If your cruise gears down often when in hilly areas its probably not saving you anything. If its not then yes its an awesome tool to use.
